Short Alberta summers mean every week on the water counts. If your Porta-Dock boat lift is already in place, a few well-chosen accessories can make launching, docking, and protecting your boat significantly easier from the first warm weekend through the last day of the season.
Here is an overview of the most useful Porta-Dock lift accessories.
Canopies

A canopy is one of the highest-value additions you can make to a Porta-Dock lift. Alberta’s high-altitude UV exposure is intense during summer months, Transport Canada’s Safe Boating Guide notes that sun and weather protection extends the life of your watercraft significantly and a canopy shields your hull, upholstery, and electronics from UV exposure, rain, and debris while the boat sits out of the water.
Porta-Dock TOP GUN® and vinyl canopies come with a 5-year warranty and feature adjustable aluminum frameworks with double aluminum tubing running the full length of the top. The fabric is heat-sealed for long-lasting seams and cleans with mild detergent and water. Colour options include Beige, Charcoal, Forest Green, Onyx Black, Caribbean Blue, and Burgundy.
Two canopy variations are worth knowing about. The Drop Down Canopy attaches a skirt to any existing Porta-Dock lift canopy to create a garage-style enclosure, providing added protection on all sides. The Mesh Canopy allows for deeper coverage while letting air circulate freely, which helps reduce moisture buildup under the cover. If you do not have a lift but still want covered storage at the waterfront, Porta-Dock also offers a free-standing canopy option.
Wheel Kits

Wheel kits make seasonal installation and removal of your boat lift far less work. Rather than dragging or carrying lift components in and out of the water, you roll them. This matters especially on Alberta lakes where rocky or uneven shorelines can make manual handling awkward and slow.
Wheel kits attach directly to Porta-Dock lift frames and are designed to handle the weight of the assembled structure. If you have been putting off lift maintenance because of the hassle of moving it in and out, a wheel kit solves that problem.
Bow Stops and Bow Guides

Consistent boat positioning on the lift protects both your hull and your lift bunks over time. Bow stops give your boat a fixed contact point when it drives onto the lift, so it sits in the same position every time. This prevents the bow from travelling too far forward and reduces the chance of contact damage.
Bow guides work alongside bow stops to steer the boat into alignment as it approaches the lift. Both accessories reduce the guesswork involved in centring the boat, which is particularly helpful in windy conditions or when visibility is low.
Carpet Guide-Ons

Carpet guide-ons are padded rail guides that run along the sides of the lift and help direct your boat into position as it loads. The carpeted surface cushions contact between the hull and the guide frame, protecting your boat’s finish and reducing wear on both the boat and the lift hardware over the course of the season.
Guide-ons are especially useful for boaters who dock frequently or who are still building confidence in tight or choppy conditions. According to BoatUS Foundation, hull damage from repeated improper loading is one of the most common and preventable causes of wear on freshwater boats – proper alignment accessories address this directly.
Solar Panel Charging Systems

If your lift uses an electric winch, a solar panel charging system keeps the battery topped up without requiring a shore power connection. This is practical on Alberta lake properties where running power to the dock is not always straightforward or cost-effective.
A solar charging setup also means you are less likely to arrive at the dock and find a dead battery when you want to get on the water quickly.
Battery Trays and Steps

Battery trays mount to the lift frame and keep your lift battery secure, elevated, and accessible. They protect the battery from water exposure and make it easy to check, charge, or swap out as needed.

Lift steps give you a safe, stable point to board or exit your boat while it sits in the lift. If you are stepping from a dock onto a lifted boat, a proper step makes the process much safer, particularly for children or older family members.
Motorized Winch Kit

A motorized winch kit removes the effort of cranking your boat in and out of the water by hand. It is available as an add-on to Porta-Dock Vertical Lifts and is straightforward to retrofit onto an existing setup. Most lift owners who make this upgrade do not go back to manual cranking.
If you are still deciding on a lift and are not sure whether a vertical or shallow water model suits your shoreline, our Porta-Dock Shallow Water Lifts page covers the options for gradual-entry lake lots.
