Boating Season

Ways To Organize Your Boat Gear for Boating Season

The rejuvenating winds and cool waters call for a fantastic boating season this summer. But before you set sail, make sure everything you need for a safe and sound boating adventure is onboard. Here is a comprehensive list to help you organize all the essential gear you need to set sail

Safety Equipment

Safety equipment is the first thing to include on your boat before setting on a boating adventure. Without it, you are compromising the safety of yourself and your family. You must keep the following things in your safety kit:

Life Jackets

It’s a no-brainer that life jackets are a must while boating. Get a coastguard-approved life jacket for your crew and at least a 16 feet long throwable device.

First Aid Kits

The chances of getting a few scratches here and there are not negligible, and you have to be prepared for that. Include a ready-to-use first aid kit with all inclusions such as band aids, bandages, ointments, sprain reliever spray and a couple of other medications.

Fire Extinguishers

Make sure there is at least one fire extinguisher kept in an easily accessible spot for emergencies. Additionally, installing a fire alarm in your boat will help you act on the fire quicker.

Distress Signals

Keep day signals and flares readily available on your boat and inform your crew about their location as well.

Suction Cups, Hooks and Holders

Suction cups come in handy onboard. They can be used for attaching hooks and making them holders. Suction cups can be installed anywhere on your boat, whether it’s the cockpit or flybridge. You can hang your towels, cups, swimsuits, hats, lines and ropes, and even attach your electronic equipment holders such as iPads with special marine suction cups.

Storage Bags for Supplies

Ready a storage bag that will accommodate all your essentials such as extra clothing, swimsuits, sunblock, and more. Also, make sure you have all your crockery and food items stored and onboard in another bag. You will require a cooler to store water and other refreshments as well.

Trash Stashers

You can affix a trash stasher on your boat surface with two to three suction cups or permanently fix it with screws. This will prevent any littering on your boat as all the trash will go straight into them.

Fishing and Other Equipment

You cannot imagine a boating trip without fishing! Make a checklist of your fishing gear. Include fishing rods, fish food and nets, and ensure that your equipment is in top condition. Inspect for any net tears or broken rods and replace them if need be.

With an increase in boating activity this summer, your dock is going to do overtime more than the rest of the seasons. As you get ready, you might witness that your dock has been sentenced to harsh weather and is barely hanging. In such cases, get your new premium dock from Beachside Docks, designed from quality materials that will provide the best support for your boat. Happy boating!
